It all started in Birmingham, Alabama
The animal bracelets emerged out of Birmingham, Alabama in summer of 2008. After a shipment of the colorful, animal-shaped bracelets hit the shelves at the Vestavia Hills Teacher Supply Store. Teachers and principals began to pick them up and give them out to elementary students as rewards for tasks and accomplishments.
Soon kids began trading them with one another and the tiny little bracelets circulated from friend to friend outside the school at churches, scout meetings, and sporting events. This was all it took to spread the craze beyond Alabama to Atlanta, Cleveland all the way up to New Jersey and the trend is spreading Westward with abandon.

Animal bracelets come in all shapes and colors and are generally one size fits all. Common shapes are: animals, sports equipment, common shapes such as stars, bones, hearts, people, etc.
What is the big deal about Animal Bracelets?
Everywhere you look these days you can find kids going crazy over these colorful little bracelets! Commonly called “animal bracelets”, and made popular by the Silly Bandz brand, rubber band bracelets are all the rage with kids these days, young and old alike. They are collecting them, wearing them, sharing them and generally creating a phenomenom over these little rubber bracelets.

My kids share them at school. They are an excellent way to teach kids about sharing things with others that they care about. My son has two bracelets given to him by girls at school, now he wants to return the favor!
A Mega Craze is Born
The animal bracelet craze emerged out of Birmingham, Alabama with a shipment of silly bands to a local teacher supply store. Animal bracelets are essentially rubber bands that are formed in the shape of animals. All manner of animal shapes are available such as pigs, turtles, dinasaurs and all manner of various others. Animal Bracelets are generally available in packages of 24 and sell for around $5-10 per pack. Both girls and boys wear animal bracelets and they are worn like any other bracelets.
